FOOLISHLY DEVOTED

Some people love you right.
Some people love you wrong.
And some people will break you while you’re still trying to prove your loyalty.

MY REFLECTION

When I started writing Foolishly Devoted, I wasn’t interested in telling a perfect love story. I wanted to explore the kind of love that sits in uncomfortable spaces...the kind that forces people to question themselves, their choices, and the limits of their loyalty.

Some relationships feel powerful because of how deeply people are willing to hold on. But sometimes that same devotion can blur the line between love and self-sacrifice. I wanted to capture those moments where characters struggle between what their heart wants and what their mind knows might be better for them.

Writing this story meant leaning into those messy emotional truths. The characters in this book aren’t perfect, and their decisions aren’t always easy to understand. But that complexity is what makes their journeys real. People love, forgive, stay too long, walk away too late, and sometimes learn lessons the hard way.

What stays with me most is this: love isn’t always tidy, and devotion isn’t always rewarded. The lessons come from the mistakes, the moments we hesitate, and the courage it takes to finally see our worth.

Through Ajai, Samara and August, I wanted to show different faces of devotion—loyalty, obsession, patience, and pride. Each character believes they’re fighting for something meaningful, even when the cost becomes clear.

At its core, Foolishly Devoted asks a simple but uncomfortable question:

When does love stop being loyalty and start becoming a lesson?

FEATURED IN PART TWO...

JUST CURIOUS...

  1. What makes someone worth fighting for?

  2. Did Da'Wan truly love Ajai, or did he only realize her value when he lost everything?

  3. Samara is determined to become Da'Wan’s main woman. Do you think she truly loves him or is she chasing the idea of “winning”?

  4. Do you think loyalty should have limits?

  5. After finishing the book, who do you think was truly “foolishly devoted”?
