MY REFLECTION
I wrote this book because I kept thinking about how often people hold on but not because the relationship is healthy, but because they’re scared of what life would look like without it. I wanted to show the courage it takes to recognize your worth, even when the person you love doesn’t. I wanted to peel back the layers of loyalty, ego, identity, and vulnerability — especially in relationships where love doesn’t look like peace.
These characters aren’t perfect — they shouldn’t be. Real people aren’t perfect. Choppa thinks he’s offering love because of how confident or “hood” he is, but confidence doesn’t always translate to commitment. Londyn believes loyalty is devotion, even when it hurts. Jay shows us love can be patient and honest, but patience isn’t always enough. And Kennedy…she represents that hunger, the kind that wants what someone else has, no matter the cost.
If His Status Ain’t Hood isn’t just about who ends up with whom...it’s about the lessons learned between the heartbeats we spend chasing what we think we want.
Thank you for stepping into this world with me.
JUST CURIOUS...
-
Londyn stays loyal to Choppa despite the chaos in their relationship. At what point do you think devotion becomes self-sacrifice?
-
Choppa believes he can move from woman to woman without consequences. Do you think his downfall was inevitable?
-
Jay represents the opposite type of man from Choppa. Why do you think Londyn struggles to fully embrace the love he offers?
